Morocco Immersion Tour 2019

Remember the stunning scenes from the Sex and the City 2 movie where the ladies enjoy a lavish spread in a luxury tent in the desert? Or the frenetic energy of the souk where Carrie runs in to Aiden? That movie made Abu Dhabi look like a magical place we'd all want to visit, but I'll let you in on a little secret...that movie was filed in Morocco.

And I'm not surprised because so many of our favorite films and TV shows use Morocco's breathtaking landscape as their backdrop. Season 3 of Game of Thrones, movies like The Bourne Ultimatum, The Mummy and Inception were all filmed here.

I'm so excited to announce that I've curated a tour of Morocco in collaboration with Morocco Immersion Tours and Adventures; a Moroccan-owned tour company specializing in small group travel for those who like to travel like a local, not a tourist.

    FASHION AND FILM IMMERSION:

As we travel from Marrakech through the Atlas Mountains and back we'll explore the regional differences in traditional dress of the Moroccan people. We'll also take a deep dive in to the influence that French artists have had on the region. Visits to Jardin Majorelle created by French painter Jacques Majorelle as well as Musee Yves Saint Laurent dedicated to French designer Yves Saint Laurent who would travel to Morocco every December and June to design his haute couture collections. Along the way we'll discover the burgeoning Moroccan film industry including a backlot tour of what is being called "Hollywood in Morocco"

    FOOD IMMERSION:

What better way to learn about a people than by breaking bread? We'll have plenty of opportunities for a full food immersion of Morocco from a meal at the home of a local chef to a visit to the market and a chance to help out cooking a meal. Come hungry!

    CULTURAL IMMERSION:

What sets this tour apart from a trip you could take on your own to Morocco is the access you'll have to the life and traditions of the Moroccan people. We'll learn about some of their biggest exports like Argan oil and Rose oil and we'll get down and dirty with the people who make them. We'll sing with the Gnawa musicians whose music has been likened to negro spirituals. We'll experience the healing powers of Sufi musical therapy. We'll emerge from the hammam with an entire new layer of skin and have henna applied by the local women. When you return from the #WeariWentMorocco tour you'll feel like a traveler, not a tourist.
