YALI 2014

Over half of Africa's population is under 35 year's old; President Obama is targeting this group in an effort to "strengthen democratic governance, and enhance peace and security across Africa." The Young African Leader's Initiative (YALI) was created by the President in 2010 to nurture leadership and entrepreneurialism in Africans, focusing on young people ages 25-35.
Annually 500 YALI fellow travel to America, for many their first time in this country, to participate in a program that involves 6 weeks of mentoring and leadership training. Held at colleges like Dartmouth and GW, there are three distinct tracks - business and entrepreneurship, civic engagement and public administration. The program culminates with a 3-day Presidential Summit in Washington, DC where I invited to attend a reception for the 2014 YALI fellows.
